SAINI SIGNS PRO CONTRACT IN SWEDEN

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- Former Humber College men's soccer goalie Karman Saini has signed a professional contract to play in Sweden for the 2017 season.

Saini signed a one-year contract to play for Husqvarna FF, a squad that finished the 2016 season in sixth place in Sweden's Division 1 table.  Division 1 is the third tier of the Swedish Football Association and uses promotion and relegation between its other leagues: Superettan and Allsvenskan.

Saini, a two-year student-athlete for Humber, finished his career with two national and two provincial championships.  After being named a 2016 OCAA All-Star, Saini did not surrender a goal the entire postseason, as the Hawks finished with a 6-0 record en route to the program's sixth national title.

"We are very happy for Karman and congratulate him on his signing in Sweden," said men's soccer head coach Michael Aquino.  "Karman played an instrumental role in our 2016 national championship, and I'm positive he will be a key contributor for Husqvarna.  His leadership, ability to read the game and commitment to training will take him far as he pursues professional opportunities in Sweden and beyond."

In his two seasons, the Hawks never lost a match and posted an overall record of 31-0-1 (.984).

Despite playing professionally in a foreign country, Saini is one of three Canadians on the squad.  The Etobicoke native joined fellow Canadians, David Monsalve and Trevon Weatherall.

After three matches to begin the 2017 season, Husqvarna currently sits in 12th place with a 0-3-0 record.
