HAWKS HEADED TO THEIR SEVENTH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

HAWKS HEADED TO THEIR SEVENTH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

FORT McMURRAY, AB: A familiar tale as the Hawks battled the Algonquin Thunder in the semi-final round of the 2016 CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship tournament. Victorious once again, the Hawks dominated the Thunder in an electrifying 8-0 final.

Both teams took the field with confidence as they've met each other recently in the OCAA championship final where the Hawks defeated the Thunder 4-0 for the gold medal. The Hawks came out flying as Marcos Nunes (Brampton) scored the Hawks' first of many goals in just five minutes of play.

Nunes put the Hawks up by two in the 10th minute and Jaineil Hoilett (Brampton) added another just a few minutes after. Then off of a free kick, Gerardo Magno (Brampton) added a fourth goal for the Hawks in the 28th minute. Patrick Majcher (Mississauga) and Julian Mullin (Brampton) each scored a goal to put the Hawks up to 6-0 at the half.

Coming into the second half, Humber kept the momentum high and the pressure on Algonquin's defensive line. After receiving a red card, the Thunder went down a man and the Hawks took the one man advantage. A goal from Jordan Piccinin (Brampton) and a final goal from Joe Tituana (Etobicoke) in the 72nd minute would cap the game at 8-0 for the Hawks. Karman Singh (Etobicoke) recorded his second clean sheet of the tournament.

The eight goals scored broke Humber's team record for most goals scored in a CCAA match. The team's previous best was in 1994 when the Hawks defeated the University of the Fraser Valley 7-2.

The next game for Humber will be the gold medal match where the Hawks will look to defend their national championship title. They will face either the host Keyano Huskies or the No. 2 Capilano Blues at 4:30 p.m. MST or 6:30 EST.

The game can be caught live here on Saturday.
