HAWKS OPEN SEASON WITH 4-1 WIN

HAWKS OPEN SEASON WITH 4-1 WIN

A two-goal effort from Patrick Majcher (Mississauga) and a stunning strike from Marcos Nunes (Brampton) lifted the Humber Hawks to a 4-1 win in the season opener over the George Brown Huskies.

The defending national champion Hawks took to the field against a tough central division opponent in George Brown who opened their season with a win against the Niagara Knights.

After both teams were going back and forth trying to be the better side in controlling the game, Humber had a break through from a pair of returning players.

About 25 minutes into the first-half, Patrick Majcher was on the finishing end to a cross into the middle of the box to put Humber up 1-0.

Both teams had chances throughout the first half but the score remained the same heading into halftime.

The beginning of the second half had George Brown trying to find an early equalizer but they still couldn't find a way through the Hawks backline who is anchored by fourth-year student Kingsley Boasiako (Kumasi, Ghana).

It was then Marcos Nunes, who returned to Humber after three years, hit a stunning strike from 25 yards out, freezing the goalkeeper and putting the Hawks up by two.

However it was George Brown who had an answer just seconds after when winger Shaquille Agard took a great first touch towards goal and hit a great strike off the post and in by helpless goalkeeper Eugenio Garro (Woodbridge).

The Huskies kept pressing but their efforts came to a halt when Majcher calmly put it over the Huskies keeper, putting Humber up 3-1 with 15 minutes remaining.

Humber continued to press and was awarded a penalty kick late in the game. Third-year striker Jordan Piccinin (Brampton) stepped up and calmly slotted it home.

The game would end with Humber walking away with a 4-1 victory that didn't come easy. George Brown came out and played well in the second half but was unable to get any offence going, other than the one goal.

The Hawks now turn their sights to this Sunday when travel to take on the University of Toronto Mississauga.

Kick-off in that game is at 3:15 p.m. ET.
