TORONTO, Ont -- Germain Sanchez became head coach of the Humber men's soccer program in 1991, and the Hawks went on to win 200 regular and post-season outdoor matches under his watch.

Germain's outdoor teams finished on the OCAA podium 14 times, including eight provincial championships, four silver medals and two bronze. He had similar success on the national stage, where the Hawks won three CCAA Championships, one silver medal and three bronze. Humber's all-time OCAA and CCAA regular and post-season record under Germain was 200-39-21, a win percentage of .810.

Germain was named OCAA Coach of the Year four times in 1995, 2001, 2006 and 2009. He is also a two-time CCAA Coach of the Year in 1995 and 2001.

A member of the Humber Varsity Hall of Fame, Germain was the longest serving head coach in Humber history upon his retirement, outdistancing the legendary and OCAA Hall of Fame inductee, Mike Katz.

On the indoor front, his teams had quite a streak as well. Humber won eight OCAA championships over a nine-year span between 1998 and 2006, and a dozen overall. Germain's indoor teams earned 17 OCAA indoor medals including four silver and one bronze.

Germain had two of his assistant coaches go on to win CCAA national championships as head coaches; fellow OCAA Hall of Fame inductee Vito Colangelo with Seneca and Michael Aquino with Humber.

Beyond the wins and losses, Germain has positively touched the lives of hundreds of student-athletes. His impact in the OCAA will last forever.
