HAWKS TRAVEL TO DURHAM SUNDAY FOR SUDDEN DEATH CROSSOVER

OSHAWA, ON: The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team will head east to Oshawa on Sunday afternoon looking for a berth to the 2016 OCAA Men's Volleyball Final Eight Championship tournament.

The Hawks will face the host Durham Lords, in a match that will start at 3:00 pm, from the Durham College Athletic Centre. The winner will advance to play for OCAA gold next weekend at Seneca College.

Durham earned the right to host the crossover playoff game by way of their third place finish in the East Division. The Lords, 16-4 on the season, finished tied with Fleming and Seneca, but dropped to third based on the OCAA tiebreaker.

Humber dropped to sixth in the West, but are coming off an impressive 3-0 sweep over the Conestoga Condors on Wednesday at home. The win ensured the Hawks with a winning record, finishing at 10-8.

The Hawks, although short a number of key players at the break, have developed into a team that is dangerous both in the middle and on the outside. Middle Stefan Vukmanovic had a spectacular game on Wednesday, finishing with 14 kills and a .722 kill percentage. Clayton Blanchette leads the team in points, with his 3.0 points per set average.

Durham boasts a threesome of players who enter the game with offensive averages above the 3.0 pps mark. Matt McGirr leads the way at 3.8, while Andrew Watson and Harrison Wood check in at 3.3 and 3.2, respectively.

A sixth versus three seed almost always favours the higher placed team, especially when they hold home court advantage. Should the Hawks be able to come out early and get success, they may be able to swing the momentum on the court and in the building.
