HAWKS GAIN VALUABLE EXPERIENCE IN PRESEASON MATCH UPS

NORTH BAY, Ontario: The Humber men's volleyball team started their pre-season this weekend in North Bay, with almost an entirely new team.

With only two veterans entering this season, the team dynamic is completely different this year. Despite bonding off-court at their team building retreat, the team has work to do with finding their on-court chemistry.

New players gelling with their veterans can be difficult, especially because their season is just getting underway.

"It was nerve wracking," said Hayden McIntyre, a rookie to the Hawks, "We're still learning a lot about each other, but it's only a matter of time until we mesh as a complete team."

The Hawks played the Nipissing Lakers both Saturday and Sunday, and although they came up short, there were dramatic improvements from the first day of play to the second in their level of play.

During their second encounter with the Lakers, the Hawks came out victorious in their first set with a tight 27-25 win.

After the win, unfortunately the men lost the next few games, allowing Nipissing to take the win.

"As a team, we're a lot better skilled than I thought we would be," said  Michael Majcen one of the veterans for the team. "moving forward, it's a learning process for everyone including the guys who are back. We need more reps and need to play more to get to now each other, and that will make it easier to play together".

The final scores of the two games for Humber were

SAT     14-25, 20 – 25, 21-25.

SUN     27-25, 25-14, 25-10 & 25-20.

The men play next against Humber's Alumni on September 26, 2015.
