PLAY-0FF IMPLICATIONS ABOUND IN HAWKS MATCH VS ST. CLAIR

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team, now retooled after a few key losses at the break, will try to break its two game losing streak on Sunday afternoon at the Humber Athletic Centre. The St. Clair Saints will roll up the 401 to provide the opposition, with the game slated for a 3:00 pm first set start.

The Hawks, at 7-4 are still in a strong position to advance to the post-season, but it is crucial to defeat the teams that sit below them in the standings. St. Clair have struggled, and currently have a mark of 2 wins and 9 losses. Three things to consider here. First, the Saints, although 1-7 in their last 8 league games against Humber, have always played the Hawks tough. Secondly, with the playoffs quickly falling out of view, the Saints would like nothing better than to knock a team out of a potential playoff position. Lastly, if one looks at the actual game scores, the Windsor squad has been in tight with almost every team in the league, but on the losing end of sets where they have scored in the twenties consistently.

The two teams played earlier this season, on the Saints home floor, and the Hawks came away with a nail biting 3-2 win. Nathan Murdock, who is no longer with the Hawks came close to setting OCAA records on this day, and ended the match with 38 offensive points which included 33 kills.

Humber freshman Clayton Blanchette has established himself as the "go to" player on the Hawks offence, and he has responded by seeing his point per set rising each game since break. St. Clair boasts two players sporting pps averages of over 3. Mike Knight and Manik Jandoria check in with marks of 3.2 pps and 3.0 pps, respectively.

The Hawks are hoping that being on their home court will provide the boost they need to snare a much needed and key victory, while the Saints themselves think a win here could catapult them in the right direction towards grabbing the last West Division playoff spot.
