DESPITE GUTSY PERFORMANCE, HAWKS FALL TO MOHAWK

Looking to rebound from a tough Saturday night loss, the Men's Volleyball Team faced Mohawk on Sunday morning with a spot in the Bronze Medal Game on the line.

The Mountaineers power game was on display early as they jumped out to a 7-3 lead with several spikes landing untouched. Matt Isaacs and Alex Lewicki combined for a pair of blocks at the net that pulled the Hawks within two, and a great dig from Libero Aleks Inveiss came shortly thereafter. Despite the nice strong back court play, Mohawk continued to play well at the net and a finish down the middle had them firmly in control. A Kamyn Wilkins spike fell narrowly out of bounds in and the Hawks went to their bench looking for a spark. John Obi and Hesam Seyyad immediately combined for a stuff block, but the deficit was too large to overcome as the Mountaineers wrapped up the opening set 25-14.

The second set saw a complete reversal of fortune for the Hawks, as they came out gunning and jumped out to a six point advantage. It was the blue and gold's turn to dominate at the net, as Isaacs and Richardson went for a pair of blocks and Bramwell's power game consistently making a difference. A nice finish form Wilkins had the advantage stretched to 23-18 and it appeared as though things would soon be knotted up at a set apiece. Unfortunately for Humber, the Mountaineers regained their mojo at the net; they reeled of seven straight with some strong finishes to steal the second 25-23 and take a commanding two sets to none lead.

Humber continued to battle in the third set, and despite falling behind in the early going fought back to cut the deficit to four after a Bramwell spike fell narrowly inbounds. Obi was doing a nice job serving, and a great save from Michael Majcen showed just how much fight the blue and gold had in them. A great block from Stefaniuk again trimmed the Mountaineers advantage to four, but shortly afterwards another Humber block fell just out of bounds putting Mohawks just two points away from the win. As they have all year Humber battled back and pulled to within one, but Mohawk would finish things off by the slimmest of margins, 25-23.

Matt Isaacs was named Player of the Game after an incredibly gutsy performance. The Hawks wrap up their season with an OCAA record of 15-7.
