HAWKS IMPROVE TO 3-0 WITH WIN OVER CONESTOGA

KITCHENER, ON:  The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team put their undefeated record on the line Wednesday evening with a road game against the Conestoga Condors.  Staying true to form, the Hawks came away with a hard fought 3-1 victory.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle while both teams developed a feeling for their opponent.  Despite having multiple student-athletes playing out of position, the Hawks kept their errors to a minimum and won the set 25-20.

First-year left-side Hayden McIntyre played libero for the first time in his varsity career.  When asked about his experience, McIntyre described his experience as "intimidating to begin with, but a good experience all around."

The second set had different results for the Hawks and they lost 18-25.  Conestoga continued to win rallies and Humber did themselves no favours by committing multiple errors throughout the set.  That loss was only the second set Humber has dropped all season.

Revived, the Hawks stormed back more aggressive and managed to scoop up the next two sets by passing well and minimizing their errors. They won the third set 25-22 and finished the fourth set with a score of 25-18.

"Overall we have a lot to improve on but the victory was nice," said first year libero Codi Burton.  "Hard to complain when you start the season 3-0."

Freshman outside hitter Nathan Murdock continued to his impressive start to the 2015-16 OCAA season.  Entering the match ranked third in the league averaging 5.4 points-per-set, Murdock finished with a game-high 13 kills, four digs, and one service ace.

Simon Smyth also played extremely well, finishing with a game-high 36 assists.  The first-year setter from Carleton Place entered the contest in ranked fourth in the OCAA averaging 9.14 assists-per-set.

First place in the OCAA West division will be on the line Saturday when the Hawks host the Fanshawe Falcons.  Game time is set for 3:00pm and will be streamed live by clicking on the link provided below:
