HAWKS HEAD INTO THE BREAK ON A ROLL WITH 3-0 WIN

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team wrapped up the first half of their season on Sunday, defeating the Boreal Vipers in straight sets, 25-15, 25-20, 25-20. With the win the Hawks have now won four straight and have a record of 7-2 on the year. The Hawks now sit in a tie for 2nd place in the West Division and are just a half game back of first.

In the first set Humber got off on the right foot by scoring the first point and never relinquishing the lead for the remainder of the set. Boreal hung around for most for the set, but a 5-0 run late in the first broke things open a help Humber take the set 25-15. Second year Middle Stefan Vukmanovic was crucial to his team success in the first as he lead them with 3 kills, an ace, and a block.

The second set saw the Hawks struggle early as Boreal scored the first 2 points, and at one-point lead Humber 11-5. Following a timeout called by Humber Coach Wayne Wilkins, the Hawks went on a 7-0 run and retook the lead 12-11, signifying a turning point in the match. Humber rode that momentum for the entire 2nd set finishing on a 6-1 run for a score of 25-20.

The Hawks started off the 3rd set strong, before letting Boreal back into it with a 4-0 run. The two teams played back and forth for the rest of the set and sat tied at 19-19. Humber then rallied to finish the set on a 6-1 run for a score of 25-20, to take the game 3 sets to none. First year setter Simon Smythe was a catalyst for his team coming up with 2 key blocks late in the set to preserve the win.

The "Hawks Nation" player of the game was Stefan Vukmanovic, a 2nd year middle from Mississauga, Ontario. Vukmanovic was tied for the team lead with 4 blocks in the match, and added 5 kills and an ace for a total of ten offensive points on the night.

This match wraps up the first half of the men's volleyball season. The Hawks next scheduled game will be at home January 14, against Sheridan
