WOMEN'S SOCCER GETS STRONGER WITH ADDITION OF RODRIGUES
ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The Humber Hawks women's soccer program – winners of seven OCAA provincial championships – have signed standout striker Victoria Rodrigues for the upcoming 2017-18 soccer season, announced co-head coach Vince Pileggi.
"We are very excited to welcome Victoria Rodrigues into the Humber College women's soccer family," said Coach Pileggi, who owns an 188-47-27 (.766) record in 21 seasons with the Hawks. "Victoria is a hard competitor that plays with a smile and should have an immediate impact on our team."
Rodrigues, a native of Burlington, Ontario, has enrolled at Humber College and will begin her freshman season at North Campus this fall.
"After visiting some other schools, I had the opportunity to take a tour of Humber, and I really enjoyed the campus," Rodrigues said when asked why she chose Humber College. "I knew I wanted to continue to play soccer at the college level and after I had met with the coaches and players, I knew this was the right place for me."
A member of the North Mississauga Panthers of the Ontario Women's Soccer League, Rodrigues has been playing rep soccer since the age of 11.
"Her attitude and love for the game are contagious inspirations to her teammates," added Coach Pileggi. "She is a strong, intelligent, two-footed striker who will add to our already deep roster."
No stranger to winning, Rodrigues and the Fightin' Irish won the 2015 'AAA' OFSAA Championship after they defeated the defending provincial champs Humberside Collegiate in a shootout.
Rodrigues will be attending Humber College starting in September after enrolling in the Fitness and Health program, a two-year diploma at North Campus.
"I liked the idea that one of the internships is right at the Humber Student Fitness Centre," continued Rodrigues. "Should I choose to pursue a degree in Kinesiology, I can easily bridge to the degree program at the University of Guelph-Humber."
Rodrigues, along with incoming recruit Dominika Philip, will join the rest of the Humber women's soccer program on the pitch August 15 for the first day of tryouts. Further information regarding tryouts can be found here.
