HAWKS ENTERTAIN DURHAM IN OCAA PLAYOFF CROSSOVER

HAWKS ENTERTAIN DURHAM IN OCAA PLAYOFF CROSSOVER

VAUGHAN, ON: By virtue of their tight 1-0 loss to Seneca on Tuesday night, the Humber Hawks (7-1-2) will entertain the East Division fourth place Durham Lords (4-7) in a win-or-go-home playoff crossover game on Sunday afternoon at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan. Kick-off is set for 2:00 pm.

The Hawks, a freshman laden team, went undefeated all year until a wind-blown shot fell into the Humber net on Tuesday night. In that match, the Hawks mounted a considerable attack in the second half, and actually hit the post with just seconds to play.

Durham enters the game as the visitors, based on their fourth place finish in the East. They have had an up and down season, and dropped their last match by a score of 8-0 to the top ranked Algonquin Thunder. Prior to that game, they had won two in a row. The Lords have struggled keeping the ball out of their own net, surrendering 33 goals in the eleven games played to date. On the other side of the pitch, they have not shown a great deal of offensive flair, averaging just a goal a game for. Taylor McGee leads the squad with three goals.

Humber, as mentioned above, suffered a single loss this year in regular season play. They are second, only to Sheridan in Central Division goal scoring, with 25 markers in 10 games. First year sensation Rebecca Spratt leads the team with seven goals. Defensively, they have also excelled, surrendering about a half a goal a game, on average.

The field will be foreign to both teams, as the Hawks play their home games at Centennial Stadium. But, the OSA Centre has undergone significant upgrades, so the pitch should be ideal for playoff soccer.

Streaming of the game is dependent on the weather, and the status of the OCAA Baseball/Softball championships, as they could spill over to Sunday. If able, we will provide the game online. If not, come out to the park and join us for OCAA soccer action.
