HAWKS BEGIN PURSUIT OF EIGHTH OCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

AMHERSTBERG, ON: The no. 14 Humber Hawks women's soccer team starts their OCAA provincial championship journey battling the host team, St. Clair Saints, Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Libro Credit Union Centre in Amherstburg, Ontario.

Over the course of the season, the Hawks were dominant with an overall record of 7-1-2 and finished the regular season in second place; a strong start to the season with a team of 17 first-year players.

Captains and fourth-year players, Alexandra Giannone (Mississauga) and Rachel Spratt (Mississauga), have been clear leaders in the back line and helped lead the team to an impressive 25 goals for and a mere six goals against all season. Among the 25 goals, Rebecca Spratt (Mississauga) scored seven and Zoe Longsworth (Toronto) scored five, both rookies and new to the Humber soccer program.

Goalkeeper Vanessa Fiore (Brampton) had an outstanding first year after finishing with a .909 save percentage, good enough for second in the OCAA.  Fiore also finished with a 6-0-2 record, posting four clean sheets along the way.

The St. Clair Saints will be a tough opponent in the first round of the 2016 OCAA Women's Soccer Championship. They finished their regular season with a mirrored record of the Hawks, at 7-1-2.  Kaitlyn Austin finished fifth in scoring after recording 14 goals in nine games this season.
