ZANARDI SET TO JOIN WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM
ETOBICOKE, ON: In pursuit of their provincial best eighth OCAA championship, the women's soccer program is excited to announce the signing of forward Giulia Zanardi. The five-foot-four Tottenham native is the second signee announced by head coaches Vince Pileggi and Mauro Ongaro for the upcoming 2016 season.
From St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Tottenham, Zanardi was a three-time team MVP for the Stingers women's soccer team. She then parlayed her dominance on the pitch into winning one of her schools most prestigious awards, the 2016 Female Athlete of the Year.
"We are looking forward to Giulia joining us," said Coach Pileggi, who combined with Coach Ongaro have 178 wins in 20 seasons at Humber College. "She's an excellent student and teammate and will be a good addition to the squad. She will provide competition and depth in her position and we are very happy she has chosen to play here."
In her club career, Zanardi has been playing for ANB Futbol Academy, where she has won numerous tournament MVP's along the way.
Zanardi will be attending the University of Guelph-Humber (UofGH), a collaboration that grants a university honours degree from the University of Guelph and a college diploma from Humber College.
"I chose the University of Guelph-Humber because it offers me the opportunity to not only learn my field of choice, but also allows me to gain hands on experience that other institutions do not offer," said Zanardi. "I wanted to play for the Humber soccer program because of their long tradition of winning."
At UofGH, Zanardi will be enrolled in the Kinesiology program.
Zanardi and the rest of the Hawks will begin summer camp August 16-18 in preparation of the upcoming 2016 soccer season.
