WOMEN'S SOCCER BATTLES HARD FOR 0-0 DRAW

NORTH YORK, ON: The Humber women's soccer (3-0-1, 1st OCAA Central Division) team fought hard in their toughest battle yet against the Seneca Sting (1-0-2, 3rd OCAA Central Division) Saturday evening resulting in a 0-0 draw.

During the first half, Seneca was a dominant force and controlled most of the play. The Hawks veteran defensive players Alexandra Giannone and Rachel Spratt kept the back line in tact to keep the Sting from penetrating to create any scoring opportunities.

A questionable call from the referee resulted in a penalty kick for the Sting. The shot hit the top crossbar and Humber managed to get the ball out of their end and keep the score at 0 until halftime.

After a much-needed break, the teams returned to the field for another 45 minutes of play. This half the Hawks found themselves as the more dominant team creating multiple scoring opportunities that just couldn't find the back of the net.

Hawks rookie goalkeeper, Vanessa Fiore, had an outstanding game, saving all shots that came her way. Humber kept the play strong and energetic until the final whistle but weren't fortunate enough to produce a goal. The final score was 0-0 and the Hawks first tie of the season.

The two teams meet again in regular season October 18 at Humber's home field.

Next for the Hawks: UTM Eagles (0-2-1, 5th OCAA Central Division) on September 28th at Centennial Park Stadium.
