TAYLOR THOMSON COMMITS TO HUMBER SOCCER

ETOBICOKE, ON: Humber women's soccer head coaches Vince Pileggi and Mauro Ongaro have added another recruit to the 2016 class as Taylor Thomson from Grimsby, On., has agreed to join the Hawks as a freshman in the fall.

The five-foot-eight defenseman is a graduate from Blessed Trinity High School, where she helped put the Thunder on the soccer map.  As a freshman, Thomson and the Thunder accomplished the unthinkable, winning the programs first-ever OFSAA girls AAA championship.  As a seven seed, Blessed Trinity defeated No. 1-ranked Louis Riel Rebelles in penalty kicks.  Thomson scored the game winner in the eighth round.  Two years later, she was named team MVP.

"We are very excited to bring another quality person and player to the Humber Hawks family," said Coach Ongaro.  "Taylor has a high soccer IQ and is a good technical player.  She is very versatile and can play any position in the backline and also in the midfield."

Thomson plays her club soccer with the Grimsby Wildcats where she has won the League Cup for the South Region and has been named League Champions.

Thomson will be attending the University of Guelph-Humber (UofGH), a collaboration that grants a university honours degree from the University of Guelph and a college diploma from Humber College.

"I chose the University of Guelph-Humber because it offers small class sizes and a great practical experience," said Taylor. "I also felt very comfortable with the atmosphere of the school and the soccer program."

At UofGH, Thomson will be enrolled in the Family and Community Social Services program.

"I chose this program because it allows me to receive both my degree and diploma over four years so I can pursue my dreams of helping others," she added.

Thomson joins the talented Humber soccer recruiting class of 2016, featuring Rebecca Spratt (Mississauga) and Giulia Zanardi (Tottenham).  Thomson and the rest of the Hawks will begin summer camp August 16-18 in preparation of the upcoming 2016 soccer season.
