HAWKS EXTEND WIN STREAK TO FOUR WITH WIN OVER HUSKIES

By: E. Garro

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks used a great finish from Hayley Mackie and a great second half effort to secure a win against the George Brown Huskies on Wednesday night.

It was a slow first half as both teams came out looking to test each other but for the most part stayed very conservative trying to not make mistakes.

It was the Hawks who struck first thanks to Mackie, the first year midfielder on a strike from outside of the box which found the top left corner of the net in the 24th minute.

Giulia Zanardi who has been dangerous from distance this season had the next great chance to extend Humber's lead in the 30th minute but she hit the goalpost off a free kick.

Humber would be awarded for their great start to the second half when Zoe Longsworth and Rebecca Spratt connected but it was the teams leading goal scorer Spratt who put home her sixth of the season to make it 2-0.

Longsworth would get on the score sheet in the 68th minute when she powered home a volley into the top corner for a 3-0 lead, one Humber would hold onto for the remainder of the game.

Hawks rookie goalkeeper Vanessa Fiore recorded the shutout for Humber.

With the win Humber now puts some distance between themselves and the second place Seneca Sting who are five points back of Humber but have a game in hand.

The Hawks next game is this Saturday when the team will travel to Oakville to take on their rivals the Sheridan Bruins. Kick-off is at 12:00 p.m. et.
