Men's Volleyball Books Ticket to Championship Final

FREDERICTON - Humber volleyball will be playing for a national championship tomorrow after sweeping Sherbrooke in the semifinal Friday evening in New Brunswick. The final set scores were 25-17, 25-23, and 25-20. 

The Hawks got right to business once they stepped on the Grant-Harvey Centre floor, with attacks by Rrezart Sadiku and Joshua Fadare earning the first points of the match. Defensive plays by Rady Kim held the Hawks down throughout the first and second sets, as service errors kept Sherbrooke within striking distance. Humber established big leads to start the match, as kills by Jakarn Kalsi and Joshua Fadare caused trouble for Sherbrooke. Big blocks by Maximum Crowder and Eduardo Silvia Ferreira kept Humber in control of the court, capturing the first and second sets at 25-17 and 25-23.

Jake Gomes got the Hawks going in the final set, going on a four-point service run with an ace. Big kills by Rrezart Sadiku and Maximum Crowder kept Humber serving with a four-point lead, forcing an early timeout from Sherbrooke. Re-entering the court, Sherbrooke remained on the Hawks heels, fighting to extend the match. Highlight digs by Rady Kim and Jake Gomes kept Humber ahead, as Sherbrooke called their final timeout of the match at 15-8. Struggling to find court, the Hawks gave their opponents plenty of time to reduce the lead. With a trip to the finals on the line, Humber buckled down, receiving kills by Maximum Crowder and Joshua Fadare to ice the match, 25-20.

Rrezart Sadiku was the 4Imprint player of the match, earning 13 kills and two digs.

Top-ranked Humber volleyball will now play for a banner Saturday evening against the winner Capilano Blues/ Red Deer Kings semifinal. Game time is set for 7 p.m EST.
