Men's Volleyball Captures CCAA Silver Medal

FREDERICTON – The Humber men's volleyball team fell in the CCAA Championship match in straight sets to the Capilano Blues, Saturday night, at the Harvey-Grant Centre in New Brunswick. The final set scores were 15-25, 18-25 and 19-25.

The loss ended a historic season for the Hawks (24-1) who set program records for most wins, longest win streak, and longest set win streak. Making just its second finals appearance in 37 years, Humber captured the silver medal and finished on the podium for the third time in program history.

Quickly falling into a three-point deficit in both the first and second sets, Humber was faced with an uphill battle throughout the national final. Service runs by Capilano caused trouble for the Hawks, unable to find court offensively. Calling a timeout while down by seven, the Hawks were looking to change the momentum in their favour. Big swings from Rrezart Sadiku and Joshua Fadare kept the Blues from starting any new runs but Humber was unable to ever catch up on the scoreboard. Capilano finished the first and second sets at 25-15 and 25-18.

The Hawks continued to struggle as they entered the third set, working to slide out against a strong server. Humber was able to tie scores with Capilano on three occasions but never finished with the lead. Amazing defensive plays from both sides of the court truly displayed the best the CCAA had to offer, as each point was earned through long rallies. Coach Wilkins called a timeout at 14-18, trying to stop the momentum that the Blues were riding. Consistent play from Joshua Fadare and Jake Gomes were crucial to the Hawks in keeping up with their opponents but Humber was unable to control the court throughout the final set, without any sufficient service runs. Capilano took the final set to win the program's first national title.

Joshua Fadare was the 4Imprint player of the match, recording 14 kills, seven digs, and two aces.

Jake Gomes and Joshua Fadare were named CCAA first team tournament all-stars, while Rrezart Sadiku was named a second team tournament all-star.
