Men's Volleyball Heading to Amsterdam over the Holiday Break

ETOBICOKE – Humber men's volleyball is heading to the Netherlands for a special educational and volleyball experience for its student-athletes, with a week of learning and games in Amsterdam Dec. 26 - Jan. 2.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for these young men to learn about and experience another culture, connect with the people of the Netherlands, and showcase Humber volleyball internationally," said Ray Chateau, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "Humber College has always encouraged our students to gain knowledge through international experiences, and we are glad to provide them with this opportunity."

During the trip to Amsterdam, the Hawks will be immersed in the culture of the Netherlands, visiting historic landmarks like the Rijksmuseum. The Rijksmuseum was founded in 1798 and has over 8,000 objects of art and history, including some masterpieces by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Johannes Vermeer. The team will also visit the Anne Frank museum, founded by Otto Frank in 1960, which continues the awareness of Anne's life story, encouraging others to reflect on the dangers of racism and discrimination, and the importance of freedom and equal rights.

"We were looking to provide our student-athletes with a great educational, cultural and international volleyball experience," said head coach Wayne Wilkins. "I am excited that this team will be able to take advantage of this amazing educational opportunity, be exposed to another culture, and be ambassadors for Canada and Humber College during our visit to Amsterdam."

The Hawks will play against some of the top programs in the Netherlands, competing in the Dynamo Tournament Dec. 27-28. Humber will then spend the day training with the Dynamo Division 1 Club on Dec. 30, followed by an exhibition match against the Nipissing Lakers (OUA).
