Williams, Gomes Earn Humber Student-Athlete of the Week Honours

ETOBICOKE – Middle Shiann Williams and setter Jake Gomes have earned Humber Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honours for the week of Feb. 24 to Mar. 1.

Shiann Williams and Humber volleyball left the 2020 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship in North Bay, capturing the silver medal. Williams played a major role in Humber's semifinal upset over No. 4 Durham, finishing with a team-high 12 points, including ten kills on a .667 swing percentage.

Williams finished the tournament with a team-high six blocks and finished with 36 points in three matches. At the conclusion of the championship, Williams was named to the all-tournament team.

Jakes Gomes began the week receiving the OCAA Player of the Year honours and a CCAA All-Canadian honours and concluded with Championship MVP honours. The six-foot-six setter helped Humber volleyball capture the program's first provincial title since 2012. 

Gomes finished the tournament with 89 assists, six service aces, and four blocks as the Hawks finished the OCAA campaign with a 22-0 record - dropping two sets all season long.

Humber volleyball returns to action March 12 in pursuit of the program's second national title. Humber's quarter-final match is scheduled for noon E.T.
