Humber Student-Athlete of the Week Honours: Special Edition

ETOBICOKE – A big week for Humber Athletics saw the Hawks capture 10 OCAA medals - including six provincial titles. This week's Humber Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week honours is a special edition, featuring four student-athletes who helped Humber reign supreme in Ontario.

Third-year skip Kaitlyn Jones joined Humber's curling program this season, bringing her high-profile resume to the blue and gold. The 2018 World Junior Curling Champion skipped the Humber women's team to a perfect record at the 2020 OCAA Championship over the weekend in Peterborough, helping the Hawks capture the OCAA women's title for the first time since 2017.

At the conclusion of the championship, Jones was named the women's curling most valuable player.

Two-sport athlete Zack Shurtleff has been selected for the second time this season, after leading the Humber rugby team to its first provincial medal since 2014. After winning the 2018 OCAA Mixed Curling Coach of the Year last season, Zack returned as a player and skipped the men's curling team to a perfect record en route to the program's third provincial title. 

At the conclusion of the championship, Zack was named the men's curling most valuable player.

Humber curling will now get ready to head to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba to compete in the 2020 CCAA National Championship, Mar. 11 to 15.

Chloe Rowe and partner Susanna Quach rolled through provincials to win the 2020 OCAA Women's Badminton Championship. For Rowe, it was her fourth straight provincial title - with four different partners - and she joined Hall of Famers Tracy Wong and Renee Yip as the only players in program history to win four provincial titles.

On Friday, Ramnish successfully defended his men's singles title, defeating rival Pranav Satheeh in the finals, 2-1. After dropping there previous two meetings, Ramnish stepped up at the Championship to beat Satheeh, twice. With his title on the line, Ramnish put together his most dominant set as a Hawk, beating his Conestoga rival, 21-7. The title defence helped hum join Hall of Famer Ray Wong as the only players in program history to win back-to-back OCAA men's singles titles.

Humber badminton will now get ready for the 2020 CCAA National Championship, Mar. 5 to 7, hosted by the University of Toronto-Mississauga.
