No. 3 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Mohawk on the Road

HAMILTON – Nationally ranked No. 3 Humber men's volleyball earned a straight-set sweep over the Mohawk Mountaineers (1-3, 7th West) Saturday evening. The Hawks picked up their second conference win of the 2019 campaign by set scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-16.

Humber took strong, solidifying leads at the beginning of the first two sets, displaying the height the team brings to the court and halting their opponent's offence. Humber was able to control both sides of the court as they earned a 25-18 victory in the first set, and 25-16 victory in the second.

Humber continued to dominate as they entered the third, keeping Mohawk on their tails throughout the set. Jake Gomes completed two service runs, one of three points and the other of five, which solidified Humber's lead at 22-13. The Mountaineers made a short comeback before an attack from rookie Joshua Fadre finalized the final set at 25-16.

Humber's offence has begun the season with a swing percentage over 34.0 percent in both matches and was led by Max Crowder at 54 percent and Andrew Blakey at 44 percent.

  • Humber extends its win streak against Mohawk to six, improving to 37-19 (.671) all-time.
  • The Hawks begin the season 2-0 for the second straight year.

No. 3 Humber will look to extend its win streak on the road Nov. 10 against the Sheridan Bruins (0-2, 10th West). Game time is set for 3 p.m.
