LAST TIME OUT VS. ST. CLAIR

With the teams competing in different divisions, they rarely see each other, but the two teams did meet up last year in the OCAA Championships. In this opening round match to determine who would advance to the semi-finals, it was Giulia Zanardi who broke a goalless tie in the 51st minute by way of a free kick from just outside the left side of the box. Humber went on to win by a score of 1-0. Hawk keeper Vanessa was brilliant in recording the clean sheet with the shut-out. Zanardi was chosen as the Humber Player of the Game, and she returns this year to lead the Hawks once again.

SCOUTING ST. CLAIR

  • The Saints are on a roll, as they are winners of four straight, including a 6-1 crossover playoff win this past weekend against St. Lawrence – Kingston
  • They split the season series with the West Division champions from Fanshawe
  • St. Clair scored a division high 36 goals while surrendering only 8
  • They boast some offensively skilled players, led by Jaclyn French and her team-leading mark of 9 goals in 10 games. Cassie Nicolas and Cassandra Rose-Medeiros check in with six goals each
  • The Saints are a disciplined squad, amassing only three yellow cards and no dismissals on the year

HAWK NOTES

  • Humber's 10-0-0 record is their second untied and unbeaten record in history, and first since the 2009 season
  • They scored 41 goals on the season and gave up a division low three against. Fiore recorded seven shutouts on the season
  • Giulia Zanardi leads the Hawks with ten goals in nine games. Claudia Piazza, although playing in only seven games has scored six times. All in all, 12 Hawks players have scored this year
  • The team that the coaches fielded last year was almost wholly a freshman squad, so this year the team has two years of league play and a playoff under their belt

HISTORY WATCH

  • Humber is looking for their eighth gold medal, fifteenth overall
  • No current Hawk is in a position to move into the upper echelon of Humber all-time scoring at this point, but Zanardi and Rebecca Spratt have 13 and 12 career goals, respectively.

WHAT'S NEXT

  • If the Hawks win, they will advance to the semi-finals on Friday at 3:00 pm. A loss will see them play on Friday at 9:00 am
  • The medal games will take place on Saturday at 12:00 noon (Bronze) and 3:00 pm (Gold)
