No. 6 WOMEN’S SOCCER BLANK No. 11 CAMBRIAN, CLINCH DIVISION TITLE

VAUGHAN, Ont – Utilizing a second-half goal with staunch defence, No. 6 Humber women's soccer (9-0, 1st Central) pushed past the No. 11 Cambrian Golden Shield (8-2, 2nd Central) 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Ontario Soccer Centre.  The win clinched the division title for Humber, the 15th in program history.

All-Star Rebecca Spratt found the back of the net for the Hawks, scoring her fifth goal of the season.  Vanessa Fiore tallied her fifth shutout of the season, turning away a season-high eight shots between the posts.

Humber held a 12-6 advantage in shots in the first half, as both keepers combined to make 13 saves to keep the match tied after 45 minutes.

Cambrian opened the second half with the first few attempts on goal, but the Hawks never lost control and took the lead in the 57th minute with a goal from Spratt.  Spratt received a long pass from Dominka Philip and weaved between the Cambrian defence before firing a shot into the bottom left corner.  The score was the 12th of Spratt's career, and she has now scored in consecutive games.

Humber's defence kept Tiffany Johnson, the all-time OCAA leading scorer, off the board once again, limiting the All-Canadian to only one shot on net.  Fiore recorded her ninth win of the season and combined with the Hawks defenders, has not allowed a goal over the past 329 minutes.
