VAUGHAN, Ont -- The No. 6 Humber women's soccer team (9-0, 1st Central) looks to finish the regular season undefeated when it hosts the Sheridan Bruins (5-4, 3rd Central) Wednesday evening at the Ontario Soccer Centre.
The Opening Kickoff
- Humber has finished the regular season undefeated twice, the last time coming in 2011, when the Hawks ended the year 8-0-0.
- Goalkeeper Vanessa Fiore has won nine games this season, recording six shutouts along the way.
- Guilia Zanardi is tied for second in the league with three game-winning goals this season.
Last Time Out
Humber clinched the division title for the 15th time in program history on Sunday with a 1-0 win over No. 11 Cambrian (8-2, 2nd Central). The Hawks scored the only goal after a beautiful cross from Dominka Philip allowed Rebecca Spratt to squeeze through the Cambrian defence and hit a strike into the bottom right corner of the net.
Scouting No. 6 Humber
Humber sits atop the only division that features two CCAA ranked programs. Lead by a dominant backline of Alexandra Giannone, Rachel Spratt, Mikaela Zeballos, and Dominika Philip, the Hawks allow a division-low 3.89 shots on goal per game and have only allowed four goals all season.
Offensively, Humber has been just as dominant, scoring 11 more goals this season than it did in 2016.
Scouting Sheridan
The Bruins play better on the road, owning a 3-1 record away from Sheridan Stadium. Cassidy Chantler leads the team with four goals this season, while Savanna Wood has won all five games between the posts.
Since 2012, Humber is 5-1-2 against the Bruins.
Last Meeting
The Hawks finished the road portion of their schedule against the Sheridan Bruins on September 30. Tied 1-1 at the half, Humber needed 16 second-half shots before Claudia Piazza netted the game-winner in the 87th minute.
Seniors Night
Wednesday marks the final regular season home match for two staples on Humber's stingy defence. Rachel Spratt and Alexandra Giannone are in their fifth and final season with Humber and own a 33-5-6 regular season record over that span.
At the Helm
Head coaches Vince Pileggi, and Mauro Ongaro are in their 22nd season leading the Humber women's soccer program. The duo, who have captured seven provincial titles, now sit three wins away from 200 all-time victories.
What's Next
No. 6 Humber will head to Cambrian College in search of its first provincial title since 2012. The three-day tournament will take place from Oct. 26 – 28.
