ZANARDI POWERS No. 9 HAWKS PAST No. 11 CAMBRIAN

By E. Garro

SUDBURY, Ont -- The no. 9 Humber Hawks women's soccer team were looking to stay perfect and second-year forward Giulia Zanardi helped push her team to a 3-1 victory over the no. 11 Cambrian Golden Shield.

It wasn't the start the Hawks expected after falling behind 1-0 early in the first half; a lead Cambrian would hold onto for majority of the match.

Cambrian, for the most part, sat back and defended with great discipline, closing down the angles and staying behind the ball made it tough for the Hawks to penetrate or generate offence.

It wasn't until midway through the second half when the Hawks were able to break through, forcing Cambrian's defence into giving up a penalty shot. Zanardi stepped up and calmly hit it into the corner tying the game at one.

It wasn't long after when Zanardi was able to find the net again – her eighth goal in three matches  – giving the Hawks a lead they would not look back on.

Midfielder Danielle Canhoto added an insurance goal late in the match to solidify the win for Humber.

With the win, the Hawks stay on top of the standings in the West division with a perfect 3-0 record.
