HAWKS EXTEND SEASON WINNING STREAK TO SEVEN WITH 1-0 WIN

VAUGHAN, ON: Another day, and another clean slate for the Humber Hawks women's soccer team (7-0-0), as they knocked off the Conestoga Condors (3-5) by a score of 1-0 in a game played Wednesday night at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

With the win, the Hawks kept their season perfect and saw Keeper Vanessa Fiore record her fourth shutout of the season.

Humber dominated the game, and at the halftime break recorded 8 shots towards goal and 5 that the Condor keeper had to snare. Conestoga, at that point, had yet to place any shots towards the Hawk net.

The second half saw both teams pick up their game, and the intensity followed closely behind. Both squads had opportunities, but it was still the hometown Hawks that had the better chances.

In the 70th minute it was a skillful strike by Hawk second year sensation Hayley Mackie, as she slammed a shot from about 22 yards out into the top left corner of the net.

From that point on, it was more keep-a-way by the Hawk players, not allowing the visitors a solid scoring chance the rest of the way. After a couple minutes of extra time the referee blew the whistle and pointed to the center dot, indicating the game was complete.

For her efforts, Mackie was selected as the "Hawk Nation" Player of the Game.

Humber will enjoy a Thanksgiving away from the pitch this coming weekend, but will return on Wednesday, October 11. They will entertain the George Brown "Huskies" at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.  Please note the game time is 6:30 pm, and not the usual 4:30 pm slot.
