SCARBOROUGH, Ont – The No. 7 Humber Hawks women's soccer team (4-0, 1st Central) heads back on the road Wednesday for their first meeting of the season with the George Brown Huskies (1-3, 5th Central).

The Opening Kickoff

  • The Humber defence has been in top form, posting two clean sheets over the first four games.  The Hawks backline has held opponents to 22 shots on goal this season (5.5 per game).
  • Second-year midfielder Giulia Zanardi leads the OCAA with nine goals this season, including three game-winners, while seven other players have found the back of the net.
  • OCAA all-star Vanessa Fiore has been tough to beat in net this season, recording two shutouts along with a .909 save percentage.

Last Time Out

Sparked by a well-balanced offence, Humber women's soccer raced past UTM, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

Zoe Longsworth and Megan Voutour netted their first goals of the season, while Giulia Zanardi added her league-leading ninth goal of the season. Vanessa Fiore picked up the shutout – her second of the season – and now has five clean sheets in 11 career regular season starts.

Scouting Humber

Humber is 4-0 on the season, with two of its wins coming in shutout fashion.  Zanardi leads the team with nine goals, while Victoria Rodrigues has chipped in three of her own.

Scouting George Brown

The Huskies hold a 1-3 record on the season, including a 1-1 record at home. Kayla Rinaldis Marziliano leads the with two goals, while three other players have also found the back of the net.

Kelsey-Jane Lamprecht has started in net for the Huskies in all four games and currently owns a 3.97 goals-against-average and a .686 save percentage.

Since the realignment of the divisions in 2015, the Hawks are 4-0 against George Brown, three of which were shutouts.

In the Nation

The Hawks continue to be ranked as a top-10 program in the country.  Since the beginning of the 2017 season, Humber has jumped two spots to the seventh position after beating No. 11 Cambrian, 3-1, on the road earlier this year.

Hawks History Watch

  • With nine goals in four matches, Giulia Zanardi inches closer to appearing on Humber's top-10 scoring list.  The Tottenham native needs seven more tallies to tie Hall of Famer Joanna Vitale's program record of 16, which was established in 2001.
  • All-star Rebecca Spratt needs one more goal to reach 10 for her career.

At the Helm

Head coaches Vince Pileggi and Mauro Ongaro are in their 22nd season leading the Humber women's soccer program.  The duo, who have captured seven provincial titles, now sit eight wins away from 200 all-time victories.
