VAUGHAN, Ont – The No. 6 Humber women's soccer team (7-0, 1st Central) aims for its best start to a season since 2012 when it hosts the George Brown Huskies (1-6, 5th Central) on Wednesday.  The match will be streamed live on HSN2.

The Opening Kickoff

  • Goalkeeper Vanessa Fiore has made seven starts this season, making 24 saves.
  • Second-year forward Giulia Zanardi leads the league with three game-winning goals this season.
  • Ten Hawks have found the back of the net this season.

Last Time Out
Playing at home for the second time this season, Humber beat Conestoga (3-5, 4th Central) 1-0.  The Condors played tight defence for most of the match before Hayley Mackie scored from beyond the 18-yard box in the 81st minute.

Condor keeper Michelle Kylie made 16 saves in the loss.

Scouting No. 6 Humber
Humber currently sits first in the OCAA central division at 7-0, including 2-0 at home.  Giulia Zanardi leads the Hawks with ten goals, while four other Hawks have scored three goals each.

Led by five-year standouts Alexandra Giannone and Rachel Spratt, Humber's defence has only allowed three goals this season, on 27 shots.

Scouting George Brown
George Brown is one of six teams in the OCAA who have yet to score at least ten goals this season.  Defensively, the Huskies have allowed the most goals in the division, giving up 39 in seven matches.

Kayla Rinaldis Marziliano leads George Brown with two goals this season. 

Last Meeting
Humber earned its third clean sheet of the season against George Brown, beating the Huskies 5-0 at Birchmount Stadium.  Vanessa Fiore and Amanda Olvera combined for the clean sheet, while Zoe Longsworth, Rebecca Spratt, Claudia Piazza, Giulia Zanardi, and Shaniece Bennett each found the back of the net.

After extending its win streak to six straight matches, Humber jumped one spot last week and is currently ranked as the sixth best program in the country.

At the Helm
Head coaches Vince Pileggi, and Mauro Ongaro are in their 22nd season leading the Humber women's soccer program.  The duo, who have captured seven provincial titles, now sit five wins away from 200 all-time victories.

No. 6 Humber will have a chance to lock up the division Sunday, October 15 against No. 11 Cambrian (7-1, 2nd Central).  Kick-off is set for noon and will be streamed live on HSN2.
