HAWKS EXIT OCAA PLAYOFFS BY WAY OF TWO 1 RUN LOSSES

KITCHENER, ON: The Humber Hawks women's softball team, who claimed a playoff spot on the last day of the regular season, were swept away on Friday on the heels of two, 1 run losses.

Game one was a match with the 2016 league champion St. Clair Saints. The Saints won all four matches against the Hawks this year, all by large margins. This game started off with Humber running out to a 2-0 lead in their first at bat. It took a couple of innings, but the Saints answered with four of their own to take a lead. The Hawks responded an inning later to tie the game at four, and knocked the OCAA Pitcher of the Year out of the game. St. Clair scored late to grab the lead 5-4. The Hawks, despite loading the bases with one out in the sixth, were unable to score. They threatened again in the seventh, but were unable to push a run across.

With the loss, Humber was forced back to the diamond a few hours later to play an elimination game against Fanshawe. Humber looked well on to their way to games on Saturday and a guaranteed OCAA bronze medal, especially when they extended their lead to 7-1 over the Falcons in the fourth. The Falcons then scored seven unanswered runs to lead 8-7. Although the Hawks had a runner on third base with one out, once again, they could not convert.
