HAWKS DROP FIRST GAME AT NATIONALS TO WESTERN

SASKATOON, SK: On a cold, snowy day in Saskatoon, the Humber Hawks softball program played in their first game of the 2016 CCSA National Championships. The Hawks were in tough in game one, having to face the powerhouse Western Mustangs who went 23-0 this year and outscored their opponents 190-11.

With a 102 year record cold in Saskatoon, the CCSA tournament was moved indoors to accommodate the teams and their fans.  Hawks nation was well represented in the dome, as numerous parents and fans made the 2,700km trip to cheer on their softball team.

The Mustangs got on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Western added two more runs in the third inning and one more in the seventh to win the game 5-0.

Offensively, the Hawks had no answer for Western pitcher Rachel Jacques, who struck out 14 en route to the complete game shutout.  Hilary Redrup (Carlisle) and Aaliyah Davidson (Brampton) both had hits for Humber in the loss.

Despite the loss, Humber's ace Myranda Pierson (Toronto) pitched well.  The Hawks all-time wins leader threw all seven innings and gave up four earned runs while striking out nine hitters.

Game two will see the Hawks play a familiar foe Saturday morning when they square off with the Fanshawe Falcons.  These two teams met earlier in the OCAA season with the Falcons winning the doubleheader by a combined three runs.  First pitch is scheduled for 10:30am ET (8:30am CT).  Click here to follow the game live.
