HAWKS SUFFER SWEEP AT THE HANDS OF FANSHAWE TO OPEN SEASON

LONDON, ON: The Humber Hawks women's softball team did not get off to the type of start they wanted to on Saturday afternoon in London, as the hometown Falcons swept the Hawks by scores of 8-6 and 3-2.

GAME 1: Fanshawe 8 vs Humber 6

The Hawks flew out to an early lead, only to have the host Falcon squad reply with a four spot to take and keep the lead. The Hawks battled back on a couple of occasions, and got within a single run at one point late in the game, but Fanshawe continued to tack on. Hawk hurler Myranda Pierson took the loss.

GAME 2: Fanshawe 3 vs Humber 2

This game was a pitchers battle. Fanshawe finally broke through for a two run lead in the fourth by way of an inside the park two run homer. Hawk pitcher Briana Donaldson was brilliant in holding down Fanshawe, and the Hawks bailed her out with two runs in the last inning to secure a tie for the time being. The Falcons walked off with the win in the bottom of the seventh. A Fanshawe player scooted home from third on a ground ball to first base. Amanda Van de Graff was tagged with the loss.

WHAT'S NEXT:
Humber left London right after the game to play two with the St. Clair Saints on Sunday afternoon in Windsor.
