HARD KNOCKS FOR YOUNG HAWKS ON OPENING WEEKEND

WINDSOR, ON: The Humber Hawks women's softball team, 2015 OCAA Silver Medalists, finished off a tough weekend as they were swept in a doubleheader against the St. Clair Saints. With the doubleheader sweep on Saturday by the Fanshawe Falcons, the Hawks record has fallen to a league worst 0-4.

But, there is good news that comes along as well. The first three losses came with a total differential of four runs, and a number of Humber players put in fine efforts.

The Hawks will look to get into the win column this week, as they have two doubleheaders on their schedule.

Game 1 vs St. Clair

Humber opened the scoring in the second, but the hometown Saints responded with four of their own in that same frame. The resilient Hawks climbed right back into the game with three in the top of the third. In the ping-pong affair, St. Clair scored in the fifth, Humber in the sixth and then the Saints put it away with one in the bottom of the sixth. The final score was 6-5, Saints.

Aaliyah Davidson was the hitting king for the Hawks in this one, going 4 for 4 at the plate, with an RBI and a run scored. Hawk hurler Myranda Peirson suffered her second defeat in as many days. 

Game 2 vs St. Clair

The Saints jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first and seemed to in control, but Humber came alive in the fifth, scoring four of their own to tie the game. The next two innings were all St. Clair, as they sscored seven runs to put the game away, winning 11-4.

Veteran Bonnie Gillingham had three hits for the Hawks, and had an RBI and scored a run. Second year hurler Bree Donaldson was tagged with the loss.
