BATTLE FOR PLAYOFFS BEGIN WHEN HAWKS HOST CONESTOGA

VAUGHAN, ON:  The Humber Hawks softball (6-8, 5th OCAA) team returns home for the weekend in a crucial four-game series as they continue to make a push towards their sixth consecutive OCAA playoff appearance.

At home, the Hawks are a perfect 4-0 and will be looking to extend that streak as they inch closer to .500.  Up first on Saturday, October 1st will be a doubleheader with the Seneca Sting (0-14, 7th OCAA).  The Sting come into the doubleheader allowing 204 runs (14.6 rpg) this season, the most in the OCAA.

Offensively, the Sting are led by Brianna Bader, who is hitting .296 with eight hits through 12 games.

After the Sting, the Hawks will host the Conestoga Condors (8-6, 4th OCAA) in a pivotal season series.  The Condors are the team Humber is chasing in the standings for the fourth and final playoff spot, making this an important home series.

The last time these two teams played, they split the doubleheader at Budd Park.  Humber won the first game 6-2 and Myranda Pierson (Toronto) picked up her first win of the season.  Game two was an exciting back-and-forth affair; however after questionable officiating, the Hawks lost 16-15 in extra innings.

Good news for Humber is their pitching staff has done a complete 180 since the season began.  Rachel Matheson-Green (Oakville) has taken the league by storm and the freshman leads the OCAA with a 1.75 earned run average.  Through 75 innings, Pierson and Matheson-Green have surrendered only 22 earned runs.

All remaining home games for Humber will be played at Concord Regional Park.  Games will be played at 1:00pm and 3:00pm on both days.
