HAWKS SOFTBALL SIGN FIRST RECRUIT

ETOBICOKE, ON: With the 2016 OCAA softball season less than two months away, the Humber Hawks are making some changes under interim head coach Duaine Bowles.  After announcing new assistant coach Merissa Daley earlier in the week, Coach Bowles and the Hawks are excited to announce their first recruit Kate Kostuch.

Kostuch, a native of Mississauga, has over 11 years of softball experience after playing at various levels throughout her career.  A natural athlete, Kostuch was named softball and flag football MVP this year while attending Father Michael Goetz High School.  Her two-sport dominance was then parlayed into the school's highest athletic honour, 2016 Female Athlete of the Year.

"Kate is coming in with above average speed that will help to balance out a lineup that was primarily built for power and big innings," said Coach Bowles.  "She is also a very competent outfielder that possesses a strong and very accurate throwing arm."

On the diamond, Kostuch has proven she knows what it takes to win.  In 2014, as a member of the Mississauga North Tigers bantam team, Kate and her teammates ended the season as Ontario Summer Games champions.  Now Kostuch spends her summers playing for the Brampton Blazers.

Kostuch will be enrolled in the Justice Studies program, a four-year program offered at the University of Guelph-Humber and will allow her to earn a diploma and honours degree.

"I chose Guelph-Humber because it offers an amazing Justice Studies program, while offering an athletics program that is second to none in the province," said Kostuch.  "Justice Studies has always been an interest of mine and I want a career where I can be part of the community and really make a difference."

Kostuch and the rest of the Hawks will report to tryouts on Saturday, August 20 at Wildwood Park. For more information on tryouts, click here or please contact Coach Bowles.
