No. 15 Women's Volleyball Sweeps Conestoga to Begin Second Half

ETOBICOKE - No. 15 Humber Hawks women's volleyball (8-2, 2nd West) continued onto a six-game winning streak, as they hosted the Conestoga Condors (2-8, 9th West) on Jan 9. The final set scores were 25-19, 25-23, and 25-17.

The Hawks came out strong in their opening sets against Conestoga, pushing early leads and creating an opportunity to showcase the entire lineup. Second-year setter Lauren Schneider made a swift impression on the court, earning 16 assists within the first two sets. Strategic kills by Alex Krstonosic and Julia Watson maintained the Hawks lead throughout the sets, as the team was forced to work around a strong block set up by the visiting birds. The Hawks rallied to victories in both the first and second sets, with scores of 25-19 and 25-23.

Conestoga showed their determination to keep the game alive, as they took a quick three-point lead in the third set. Offensive plays by Cassidy Andrews and Julia Watson kept the Hawks within striking distance of the Condors.  Alex Krstonosic brought her team into the lead at 12-11 with a kill and block, pushing the Condors into their first time out of the set. Lauren Schneider sustained the Hawks lead with a ten-point service run, including two aces. Humber continued to build on their serving success as Julia Watson pushed the Hawks to a 25-17 victory with an ace.

Alex Krstonosic was named the Hawks Nation Player of the Game, earning nine kills, two blocks and an ace. Fourth-year Julia Watson led the Hawks with 15 points on 13 kills and two aces.

Humber Highlights

  • Lauren Schneider set up her best game of the season, earning 30 dimes as well as five kills.
  • The Hawks currently rank first in the OCAA for overall kills, with a total of 420.
  • Shiann Williams remains first in the OCAA for solo blocks, earning a total of 32 within nine matches.
  • Humber has gone 20-0 against the Condors over the last decade.

The Hawks will host the Sheridan Bruins on Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
