ETOBICOKE — No. 15 Humber women's volleyball extended its win streak to eight games after an intense straight-set sweep of the Mohawk Mountaineers (8-5, 3rd West) on Jan 18. The final set scores were 25-21, 25-21, and 25-23.

The Hawks had to battle right out of the gate Saturday afternoon, as the Mountaineers displayed why they are ranked first in the OCAA defensively. Huge kills by Hannah Petcoff and Hayley Henderson kept the Hawks in the lead as Mohawk stayed within an arm's reach of Humber throughout the first and second sets. Setting up Humber's offence and confusing the opponent, captain Alex Bartmann was able to earn herself a kill. Maintaining control over both sides of the court, Humber finalized both the first and second set at 25-21 and 21-21.

The Hawk's Nest intensified in the third set, as Mohawk proved their hunger for another set by taking an early lead for the first time in the day. Humber stayed disciplined under pressure, closing the point gap with the Mountaineers and pushing into a two-point lead. Alex Krstonosic was a powerful force throughout the sets, while blocks by Hayley Henderson and Shiann Williams made all the difference for the Hawks. Mohawk was forced to call both of their timeouts as game point approached at 23-20, in favour of the Hawks. Humber finished the set off clean at 25-23, with a huge kill by fourth-year Julia Watson.

Alex Krstonosic played a crucial role in the Hawks victory, earning 15 kills and six digs. Freshman Alex Lachappelle earned Hawk Nation Player of the Game, racking up 22 digs and three assists.
