No. 15 Women's Volleyball Sweeps No. 4 Durham, Advances to OCAA Finals

NORTH BAY - No. 15 Humber women's volleyball booked its ticket to the provincial championship after handing No. 4 Durham its first loss of the season in straight sets. The final set score was 25-15, 25-18, and 25-16.

The Hawks faced an uphill battle from the opening serve, quickly finding themselves down in the opening two sets of the night. Service runs by Julia Watson and Hayley Henderson turned the tables for Humber, rallying the team to comfortable leads. Big-time blocks by middle Shiann Williams, paired with serves by Hannah Petcoff closed off the first and second sets at 25-15 and 25-18.

Humber struggled to find their footing in the final set, as Durham came out with a four-point service run. Julia Watson and Shiann Williams helped to even the score, with big kills to return the momentum to the Hawks. Great athleticism by Alex Lachapelle and Alex Bartmann kept the ball alive for the Hawks, as Durham closed their deficit. Staying consistent at the service line, Megan Hunt pushed the Lords to use both of their timeouts within a six-point span. Humber finished off the game at 25-16, with a strong kill by Alex Krstonosic followed by a Durham service error.

Freshman Megan Hunt earned OCAA Player of the Match, finishing with eight kills and two service aces.
