Women's Volleyball Advances to Semifinal With Sweep of Canadore

NORTH BAY - No. 15 women's volleyball opened the Championship with a straight-set sweep of the Canadore Panthers (15-3, 3rd East), Thursday evening. The final set scores were 25-21, 25-19, and 25-17.

Humber got straight to work to open the tournament, with kills by Alex Krstonosic and Shiann Williams setting the teams' pace. The Panthers kept up with the Hawks, staying within a two-point reach during the first and second sets. Huge swings by Megan Hunt became a game-changer for the Hawks, giving them the opportunity to establish a steady lead. Service runs by Hannah Petcoff and Alex Bartmann finished off the close sets at 25-21 and 25-19

Canadore came ready to compete in the third set, taking a two-point lead and forcing Humber to work from behind. Alex Krstonosic quickly turned the score around with a deep middle kill, then proceeded to hit the service line for an ace that pushed the Panthers into the set's first timeout. Crucial digs by freshman Alex Lachappelle, paired with kills by Hayley Henderson, took the Hawks into a seven-point advantage. Consistency was key for Humber, as hitters Shiann Williams and Megan Hunt nailed down unstoppable plays that finished off the set at 25-17.

Shiann Williams earned OCAA Player of the Match, earning 10 kills, two aces, and two blocks.
