Women's Volleyball Sweeps Niagara in Home Opener, 3-0

ETOBICOKE – The Humber women's volleyball team opened the 2019 campaign with a straight-set sweep over the Niagara Knights, 3-0. The Hawks handed Niagara its first loss of the season by set scores of 25-14, 25-17, and 26-24.

Third-year setter Alex Bartmann recorded a double-double, finishing with 32 assists and ten digs. Julia Watson made a big impact offensively with a team-leading nine kills, while Emma Heeney followed closely behind at eight. Sheridan transfer Shiann Williams finished with 12 points, recording seven kills, four blocks, and an ace.

After cruising through the first two sets, Humber had to rally from behind to complete the three-set sweep. Trailing 18-14, Humber's defence stepped up, recording three stuffed blocks to tie the match at 24. Emma Heeney picked up her eighth kill of the match, beating the Knights block to seal the victory.

Humber volleyball will head on the road Nov. 2 to face Mohawk (2-0) for its first road match of the season. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
