LONDON - No. 15 Humber women's volleyball came short of the win on Jan. 25, falling to No. 4 Fanshawe (12-0, 1st West) in a nationally ranked match-up, 3-1. The final scores were 24-26, 25-17, 17-25, 27-29.

Both teams had to fight from the first serve as Humber took an early lead in the opening set Saturday afternoon. Shiann Williams accelerated the Hawks from the service line, making a four-point run and pushing the Falcons into their first timeout at 14-10. Fanshawe fought hard to stay on the Hawks tails, as impressive swings by Julia Watson and Alex Krstonosic kept the Hawks ahead. Reaching the twenties, Humber began to lose steam, dropping the set at 24-26.

Humber got back to work as they entered the second, earning themselves an early three-point lead over Fanshawe. Middles Alex Krstonosic and Shiann Williams paused the Falcons offence with unbeatable blocks at the net. Having control over the momentum on the court, Humber maintained a four-point advantage throughout the set. Freshman Alexandria Dube led the Hawks to victory at 25-17, with an impressive six-point service run.

The Falcons were the first to take the lead in the third and fourth sets, forcing Humber to work hard from behind to stay in the game. Freshman Alex Lachapelle made her mark on the court, picking up everything Fanshawe seemed to tossed over. Each point became crucial as the sets continued, with the energy of Fanshawe's gymnasium creating a second opponent for the Hawks. Outside kills between Hayley Henderson and Hannah Petcoff were the Hawks' main source of power, earning eight kills apiece throughout the game. Humber played hard, but came just short of victories, at 17-25, and 27-29.

Alex Krstonosic led the Hawks with 22 points including 16 kills, both being new career highs for the third year middle. Julia Watson followed behind with 12 points of 10 kills and two digs.
