WINDSOR, Ont -- Concluding its three-game road trip to begin the season, Humber women's basketball (3-0, 1st West) posted a 95-59 win over St. Clair Sunday afternoon at the SportsPlex. The Hawks were led by senior Ceejay Nofuente who finished with a game-high 22 points.
Humber also saw great production from freshman Jaime Gordon, who added a career-high 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and from Aleena Domingo with 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Leticia Lopez and Laura Meadows added 11 points each as well.
St. Clair (0-1, 7th West) was paced by Logan Kucera with 21 points, while Torrie Hansdor added a game-high 11 rebounds.
Felicia Velasquez opened the scoring for Humber, hitting a 3-pointer after receiving a nice kick out pass from Leticia Lopez. The Saints countered with three straight baskets to take the lead before Lopez hit from deep to tie the game.
With the game tied at eight, Humber went on a 16-6 run to end the quarter, leading 24-14 after ten minutes of play.
Jahnae Gyles hit a 3-pointer to begin the second quarter as the former Windsor Lancer finished with nine points and three rebounds. Humber's defence held the Saints to 12 points in the quarter and went into the locker room leading 46-26.
For the half, the Hawks shot 41.2 percent (14-of-34), including 6-of-10 from behind the arc. The Saints were held to 37.0 percent (10-of-27) from the floor and 2014 OCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year Shannon Kennedy was held off the stat sheet.
The Saints were able to cut into Humber's lead in the third frame; however, the Hawks answered with a 14-2 run to bring its lead to 36, to secure its third straight win to begin the season, 95-59.
