The Storyline
Top-ranked Humber women's basketball will begin its two-game road trip Wednesday evening against UTM (5-11, 8th West). Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the UTM Gym in Mississauga.
Last Time Out
Behind a season-high 27 points from senior Aleena Domingo, Humber rolled to a 77-48 win at the North Campus Gym Feb. 3. Ceejay Nofuente recorded another double-double, while Felicia Velasquez finished with a season-high eight steals in the win.
In the second quarter, Humber established a new OCAA single-season scoring record, surpassing its mark of 1,503 from last season.
Scouting UTM
- The Eagles are competing in their first season in the OCAA and currently sit on the bubble for a playoff spot. With two games remaining, Conestoga (4-14, 7th West) trail UTM by one game for the final spot.
- Akashia Moore is leading the Eagles offensively, averaging 13.2 ppg.
- Bianca Hatchett is averaging 12.7 rebounds per game, the second-highest mark in the OCAA.
Previous Meeting
Humber (16-0, 1st West) won its 68th consecutive OCAA regular and postseason game in a 94-54 win against UTM Nov. 29.
Four players finished in double figures for Humber, as the Hawks scored the first 17 points of the game in the opening four minutes.
Ceejay Nofuente paced the way for Humber with a quadruple-double, finishing with 15 points, 13 rebounds, 12 assists, and 11 steals. Aleena Domingo finished with a game-high 22 points and added ten rebounds, while Felicia Velasquez and Miea Campbell-Johnson recorded 11 points each.
Second Half Slump?
After scoring 90-plus points in 13 straight games, the Hawks have combined for 164 points over their last two contests. In those two games, Humber has shot a combined 16.1 percent (9-of-47) from 3-point range.
Getting Defensive
Humber ranks first in field goal defence (21.3), first in scoring defence (44.3), and first in steals (20.8).
Under Ajay Sharma, the Hawks have held opponents to 50 points or less, ten times this season.
Just Win
Humber's win against Niagara was its 74th consecutive OCAA victory, extending its league record.
The previous mark of 67 was established by head coach John MacInnis and the Algonquin Thunder from Nov. 2011 – Jan. 2015. The Hawks matched that mark with a 28-point win over No. 15 Fanshawe on Nov. 15.
Humber's Dynamic Duo
Entering the 2017-18 season, no Humber student-athlete had ever reached the 1,000-point club. 13 games later, Humber's dynamic duo of Ceejay Nofuente (1,216) and Aleena Domingo (1,067) started the club, becoming the second-highest scoring teammates in league history.
Immediate Impact
Playing in their first season with Humber, Brittney English, Makeba Taylor, and Jahnae Gyles have made an impact for the Hawks, playing in all 16 games this season. The trio has combined for 20.5 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.4 steals per game.
From Downtown
Jahnae Gyles and Ceejay Nofuente have combined for 5.3 triples per game this season, ranking second and fourth in the OCAA with 2.7 and 2.6 treys apiece, respectively.
Humber ranks first in the conference in 3-point field goals made per game (9.8).

The Hawks are in pursuit of their fourth consecutive provincial championship, looking to become only the second program in OCAA history to complete the feat. Algonquin won four straight from 2011 – 2014.

The Humber record book and OCAA record book are beginning to look very similar. The Hawks now own five OCAA team scoring records, including points in a season (1,561), points in a game (125), 2-point field goals in a game (55), 2-point field goals in a season (568), and 3-point field goals in a season (157).
All-Time List
Nofuente now sits third on the OCAA all-time scoring list with 1,200 career points - 85 points behind Shannon Kennedy of St. Clair for second place.
With 1,067 points, Aleena Domingo is currently tied with Erin Emery (Durham, 2007-12) for ninth all-time.
At the Helm
Ajay Sharma returns to the sidelines for his seventh season and is one win from tying Humber Hall of Famer Jim Henderson (1991 – 2000) as the all-time winningest head coach in program history.
Sharma has directed the Hawks to a period of unprecedented prosperity in the form of three consecutive CCAA tournament appearances – including the first national championship in program history – and three straight provincial titles. Sharma owns a 132-22 (.857) career record.

Humber is the proud host of the 2018 OCAA Women's Basketball Provincial Championship March 2-4 at the North Campus Gym. All games will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
