The Storyline
Top-ranked Humber women's basketball will face its toughest test of the season Tuesday night with a road trip to Hamilton to play No. 10 Mohawk (13-2, 2nd West). Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. from the David Braley Athletics & Recreation Centre.
Last Time Out
Humber (14-0, 1st West) cruised to an easy, 104-62, win against Sheridan (8-6, 6th West) in front of a large home crowd Jan. 25. Aleena Domingo paced the way for Humber offensively, recording her fifth straight double-double, finishing with a game-high 21 points and ten rebounds.
Ceejay Nofuente became Humber basketball's all-time leading scorer - men's or women's - passing Patrick Rhodd's mark of 1,164 points.
Scouting Mohawk
- The Mountaineers have been the tenth-ranked program in the country since the original rankings were released Oct. 31.
- On Jan. 27, Mohawk had its six-game win streak snapped with a 69-59 loss at Fanshawe (12-2, 3rd West).
- Offensively, all-star Stef Hrymak leads the Mountaineers in scoring, averaging 13.4 ppg.
- 2016-17 OCAA Rookie of the Year Sam Pocrnic has returned to Mohawk's lineup after missing the first half of the season due to injury. Through four games, Pocrnic is averaging 12.0 ppg.
Last Meeting
Humber jumped out to a 30-9 lead after ten minutes of play en route to a 92-63 victory over Mohawk Nov. 16 at the North Campus Gym. Ceejay Nofuente finished with a game-high 26 points for Humber, while Stef Hrymak finished with 17 points for Humber in the loss.
Finals Preview?
For three straight years, Humber and Mohawk have met in the OCAA provincial title game, with Humber winning all three.
Just Win
Humber's win against Sheridan was its 72nd consecutive OCAA victory, extending its league record.
The previous mark of 67 was established by head coach John MacInnis and the Algonquin Thunder from Nov. 2011 – Jan. 2015. The Hawks matched that mark with a 28-point win over No. 15 Fanshawe on Nov. 15.
Humber's Dynamic Duo
Entering the 2017-18 season, no Humber student-athlete had ever reached the 1,000-point club. 13 games later, Humber's dynamic duo of Ceejay Nofuente (1,177) and Aleena Domingo (1,024) started the club, becoming the second-highest scoring teammates in league history.
90s Babies
The Hawks have scored 90-plus points in 13 consecutive games this season, the longest streak in the Ajay Sharma era. Humber's previous high was two (six different occasions).
Doubling Down
Humber has recorded 18 double-doubles in 14 games this season.
Just a Misdemeanor
Humber is averaging 21.4 steals-per-game, the top mark in the OCAA. On Jan. 13, the Hawks forced Conestoga in 50 turnovers, 39 of which were steals. The 39 steals were the most in a game during the Ajay Sharma era, surpassing the previous high of 34 on Nov. 1, 2015, against Sault.

Since the beginning of the 2016 season, Humber has been the top-ranked program in the country.

The Hawks are in pursuit of their fourth consecutive provincial championship, looking to become only the second program in OCAA history to complete the feat. Algonquin won four straight from 2011 – 2014.
No Record is Safe
Over the last three seasons, Humber has broken – and rebroken – numerous OCAA team records. Averaging 99.4 ppg this year, the Hawks are on pace to break the league scoring record for the third consecutive year.
From beyond the arc, Humber has hit a league-best 148 3-pointers (10.6 per game) and is currently on pace to break the OCAA record of 149 – established by Fleming during the 2012-13 season.
All-Time List
Nofuente now sits fifth on the OCAA all-time scoring list with 1,177 career points, one point shy of Natasha Thombs' (Seneca 2003-07/08-09) mark of 1,178.
At the Helm
Ajay Sharma returns to the sidelines for his seventh season and is three wins from tying Humber Hall of Famer Jim Henderson (1991 – 2000) as the all-time winningest head coach in program history.
Sharma has directed the Hawks to a period of unprecedented prosperity in the form of three consecutive CCAA tournament appearances – including the first national championship in program history – and three straight provincial titles. Sharma owns a 130-22 (.855) career record.
2018 OCAA Provincial Championship
Humber is the proud host of the 2018 OCAA Women's Basketball Provincial Championship March 2-4 at the North Campus Gym. All games will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
