Coach Miles Adds Carlo Zoffranieri to Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

ETOBICOKE – Newly appointed Humber men's basketball head coach Omar Miles has announced the addition of Carlo Zoffranieri to his coaching staff for the upcoming 2020-21 OCAA season.

"I'm excited Coach Zoffranieri has made the commitment to join our staff here at Humber," Miles said. "He is a highly decorated high school coach with a program that boasts multiple titles and a plethora of graduating players who have succeeded on and off the court – signifying that he built his program the right way."

A physical education and science teacher at St. Marguerite d'Youville Secondary School for two decades, Zoffranieri has led the Senior Boys squad to eight ROPSSAA titles and two OFSAA final four appearances.

"I am looking forward to being part of the rich basketball tradition at Humber College, and hope to contribute to its great history," said Zoffranieri. "I am very excited to work with my good friend and colleague, Coach Omar Miles. I hope to bring my 20 years of experience as an educator and a coach, to help our student-athletes."

Zoffranieri has coached over a dozen players that went on to play NCAA DI basketball – including NBA champion Tristan Thompson in 2006 and 2007. Humber greats Jose Araujo, Gibson Eduful and Kenny Ejim also learned under the guidance of Coach Zoffranieri during their high school playing days with the Panthers.

Miles and Zoffranieri are no strangers to each other's coaching styles, competing against each other for over a decade to be the top high school program in Brampton.

"As high school coaches, we have battled on the hardwood and I saw firsthand his passion for the game, but more importantly his dedication to the young men on his teams'," added Miles. "He is a man of purpose, integrity and accountability and I look forward to carrying out my vision of student-athlete success."

During his playing career, Zoffranieri played for the Lakehead Thunderwolves of the OUA from 1994 to 1999. In his second season, he was named the most improved player and was selected as the team captain in his senior season.

"In addition to assisting with team and player development, I am invested in guiding athletes to use the transferable skills they learn on the court into their future endeavours," said Zoffranieri. "Lastly, this new journey would not be possible without the support of my loving family."
