Lucky 13, No. 10 Men's Basketball Moves to Top of West Division

ETOBICOKE — In a matchup for the top spot in the OCAA West Division, No. 10 Humber men's basketball defeated No.14 Redeemer Royals (12-4, 2nd West), 85-74, Thursday evening at the North Campus Gym.

Jaylan Morgan was the catalyst for Humber's offence on the night, finishing with a game-high 24 points, three rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist.

Humber struggled on offence in the opening quarter as the Royals size gave them fits inside. The Hawks shot just six-of-19 (31.6 percent) from the floor, finishing with 14-points in the quarter as they trailed by four.

Humber clamped down on the defensive end in the second, holding Redeemer to just 12 points in the quarter. Humber forced the Royals into 10 turnovers in the second alone, helping the Hawks retake the lead. Humber dropped 20 points in the second and went into the break with a four-point lead, 34-30.

The third quarter began with a rough stretch for the home side, as Redeemer retook the lead thanks to a 12-4 run. Humber was able to answer back late in the quarter, making it just a one-point game heading into the fourth.

After three tightly contested quarters, Humber went right at the Royals with an 11-6 run to start the fourth. Humber would put together their most complete quarter of the game, finishing with a game-high 33 points in the frame to outscore Redeemer by 13. Fowzi Mohamoud led the way for the Hawks late, scoring seven straight points with 40 seconds remaining to ice the game.

The win moves Humber into first place in the ultra-competitive West Division and extended the Hawks' win streak to 13 straight games.
