No. 10 Men's Basketball Books Spot in OCAA Title Game

SARNIA — No. 10 Humber men's basketball will play for OCAA Gold after defeating the Seneca Sting (19-4, 2nd East), 78-73, Saturday Evening, at Lambton College.

Jaylan Morgan and Fowzi Mohamoud were the story for Humber in the win, combining to score 43 points in the game. Mohamoud finished with a team-high 23 points while chipping in with six assists, three rebounds and two steals. Morgan put together his third double-double on the season, finishing with 20 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, one steal and a block.

The Hawks kept pace with the Sting for much of the opening quarter, as both sides struggled to make shots in the early going. Seneca would pull away late in the first thanks to a 7-0 run to the end quarter as they held an eight-point lead after one. Humber scored just 15 points in the opening frame, shooting just 37.5 percent from the floor.

Humber saw their deficit increase to begin the second, failing to hit multiple open shots. Down by 14 after 15 minutes of play, the Hawks battled back down the stretch to make it just a one-point game entering the half. Morgan and Mohamoud helped spark the Hawks late run combining for 13 of the teams 20 points in the quarter.

The third quarter was the Hawks' most complete quarter as they attacked the Sting in transition. Humber put up a game-high 24 points in the frame as they took the lead away from Seneca. All the fast break points led to an efficient quarter for the Hawks, as they went 11-of-22 from the field in the third.

It was a tight fourth quarter before a Mohamoud triple gave Humber a six-point lead with under two minutes to play. Both sides traded basket until a Morgan layup made it a five-point game with just 14 seconds to go. That would prove to be the dagger, as the Sting would fail to make the comeback, falling to the Hawks, 78-73.
