Mohamoud Sets Program Record for Career Three-Pointers in Win Over Canadore

NORTH BAY — Humber men's basketball opened the second half of the season with a win, defeating the Canadore Panthers (0-11, 11th West), 88-70, Saturday evening.

The story of the night for Humber was Fowzi Mohamoud, as the third-year guard from Rexdale became Humber's all-time leader in career three-pointers surpassing Mike Dvorak's (2007-12) previous record of 114.

Mohamoud came into the game just two three-pointers shy of Dvorak's record, and after hitting one triple in the first half, knocked down consecutive three-pointers midway through the third to put himself alone atop the Hawks' record books.

Humber fell behind early in the opening quarter as the host Panthers came out hot from behind the arc, shooting five-for-seven in the first. The Hawks were able to keep pace thanks to the active play from the bench as they scored 12 of the teams 18 points in the quarter.

The Hawks took over the game in the second frame, holding Canadore to just ten points in the quarter as they locked in on the defensive end. After taking their first lead halfway through the quarter, the offence got hot right before the break, pushing the Hawks' lead to seven entering the half.

Humber kept their foot on the gas in the third, going on an 8-0 run to open the quarter. With the lead now in double figures, Humber picked up the pace on offence shooting 7-for-13 (53.8 percent) from the field leading to a game-high 30 points in the quarter. The Hawks entered the fourth with the game well in hand with the score now 67-43, and that lead would prove to be too large for an undermanned Panthers squad as Humber rolled to their eighth straight win, 88-70.

Four Humber players finished in double figures, with Jordon Francis leading the way with his 16 points in the game. Keith Laryea finished with 14 points in his first game for the Hawks, while Dequon Cascart and Kevin Otoo both picked up 13 points each in the game.
