No. 10 Men's Basketball Beats Georgian, Advances to Semifinal

SARNIA —No. 10 Humber men's basketball is moving on to the OCAA semifinal round after defeating the Georgian Grizzlies (13-9) Friday afternoon at Lambton College, 88-60.

Both Keith Laryea and Jaylan Morgan were dominant for Humber in the victory. In just 18 minutes of action, Laryea finished with 21 points, six rebounds and one assist, shooting eight-of-12 from the field. Morgan was just as good, finishing with 18 points, six rebounds and two assists, finishing five-of-eight from the field in twenty-minutes of action. Khalid Ismail rounded out Humber's double-digit scorer's, recording 12 points off of the bench.

The Hawks (17-5) took control of the game early jumping out to a 16-4 lead midway through the first. Humber showcased its depth in the opening quarter, as nine different players recorded a basket with Fowzi Mohamoud leading the way with six points. The Hawks finished the quarter with a 14-point lead, shooting an impressive 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) from the floor.

Humber shutdown Georgian's offence in the second frame, holding the Grizzlies to just 13 points on 23.8 percent) shooting from the floor. The Grizzlies leading scorer Tyler Vanessen was shutout in the first half, as the Hawks held the first team all-star to zero points through twenty minutes. With two quarters in the books, Humber took a commanding 18-point lead into the break.

The third quarter was the most competitive of the afternoon, with a Georgian cutting the Hawks' lead down to 12. That would be as close as Georgian would get, however, as Humber would answer back in the later stages of the quarter, taking a twenty-point lead into the fourth.

With the game well in hand entering the fourth, the Hawks coasted through the final frame, earning a spot in the OCAA Final Four, 88-60.
